Visual Prayer—A Spiritual Practice
using
Sacred Colours
The more I sit in silence, the more I hear my longings for my own spiritual practice.
I have always used my Rosary beads but have been discontent as the prayers aren’t
my prayers and don’t suit me at this time. So, I created my own prayer
beads which consist of 72 beads which symbolizes Abundance.
Each bead has a special meaning and I created a prayer for each bead.
Here I am again, restless, in need of something to push me deeper
into my Spiritual Practice. The practice that I have been doing is
using colour to move deeper inward. Setting aside 15 minutes in my day,
I use 4”x4” piece of paper, coloured pencils or water colours and a marker
to flow deeper into my spiritual life.
As you know Be Still has been a mantra for me and when that happens
answers come in many forms. I wanted something but wasn’t sure what
that something was until I started writing down ideas such as mandals,
making fabric prayer squares for the free little Art Gallery,
visual prayer journal, then I found my copy of the book Praying in Colour,
which I used years ago and I knew what I wanted to do.
I wanted a practice that wouldn’t take an hour or more but brought
a sense of calm and fulfillment. Hence, the spiritual practice of
using colour, a bit of magic and mystery.
The practice is flexible and changes as I do.
