Colours in the Backyard
Whites, purples, greens and yellow are splashes of colour that appear in the yard.
The backyard is a lot of nature in a little space. Sitting in the sunroom with
doors and windows open feeling the sensation of the cool morning air.
The morning greeting.
Looking to my right are tiger lilies showcasing the long dark green leaves.
Those long narrow leaves stand very straight like a soldier or bend near
the tip acknowledging the warm breeze while others spikes bend low
bowing to either a heavy load or abundance. Over the past two to
three days the leaves have doubled in size.
Hostas gather together to form a circle reminding me of a community
that gathers together for enjoyment or pleasure or work. The white
and green hosta leaves provide an elegant background for the delicate
white violets that parade in a row along the edge of the flower bed.
The white violet symbolizes peace as well as acting as a charm against evil.
For newlyweds the violet is considered a good luck flower.
The violets are still and gentle this morning as they rise and fall
with the contour of the earth.
The dull green and brown wooden areas of the cedar hedge appear to be
brokenhearted. Unfortunately, the branches were trimmed too close.
The aroma of freshly trimmed cedar has a spicy tangy smell that
remains for a lengthy period of time. Cedar trees are often associated
with protection and purification rituals, as the strong scent of the tree
is thought to ward off negative energy. In addition, the cedar is known
for its endurance and longevity, making it a symbol of immortality.
Nature provides us with many answers to life……..if we watch and listen.
Continuing on with the colours in the backyard are the black garden
boxes which contain bright green lettuce about 3 - 4 inches high as
well as bell peppers rising majestically from the rich dark soil.
Imagine…..a tiny seed is placed in dark damp soil that pushes its
way up towards the light. A miracle! Tomato plants in various
heights sit on the earth bathing in the sunlight as a gentle breeze
introduces them to the dance of nature.
Bees do a jig from plant to plant while butterflies waltz and skip.
Fragrances float on the whim of the air with the choir of
chirps and beeps blend together to create a choir.
Listen, watch and learn from the gift of nature.
Look around for the colours that touch your spirit.
